Event information

This seminar is aimed at finance professionals who may be based in charities/not for profit enterprises or volunteering as either trustees, directors, board members or management committee members. It is designed to provide a comprehensive overview to obligations and responsibilities, as well as a consideration to the boards responsibility for financial control, reporting and charity investments. Providing the latest thinking on key areas such as charity law and regulation.

South Wales' leading charity update will be hosted by industry experts who will draw upon their expertise and experience in law, compliance, regulation, accounting and will look at recent case studies; as well as pin pointing where to go for further information and advice.

The half day sessions will comprise the following topics:

  • Pensions: what boards need to be aware of
  • Duties of the board and the trustee from the perspective of an employment lawyer
  • Charity investments, performance of assets and responsible decision making
  • Charity VAT
  • Law and regulation
  • Financial sustainability: growth and expansion

There is no cost to attend this conference if you are an ICAEW member or ACA trainee.

Sarah Case, Partner, Baldwins Group
Sarah also leads Baldwins South Wales Charities specialism and acts for a considerable portfolio of their Charity and Not for Profit clients. She leads the team in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea in providing high level compliance with common sense solutions. Sarah was one of the first Chartered Accountants in Wales to hold the ICAEW Diploma in Charity Accounting (DChA) which recognises the highest level of expertise in charity finance and administration. Sarah’s experience and knowledge is evidenced by the achievement of the ICAEW’s DChA. Service and expertise by Sarah and her team is also evidenced by outstanding annual results in an external charity audit survey.

Paul Mathias, Investment Manager, Brewin Dolphin
Paul joined Brewin Dolphin in 2010 after graduating from the University of Bristol with a degree in Law. He has since progressed to the role of Investment Manager after attaining the Chartered Wealth Manager qualification. Paul specialises in providing investment solutions for charities and institutions.

Kate Walsh, Associate, Hugh James Solicitors
Kate trained at Capital Law in Cardiff and qualified in 2013. Following qualification, Kate spent several years at Clarkslegal LLP in Reading before returning to Cardiff in August 2019 to join Hugh James’ Employment team. Kate has built up extensive experience of advising on both contentious and non-contentious matters to both business and individual clients. She also enjoys delivering training sessions to clients on a range of employment law topics.
Kate also teaches employment law at Cardiff University and is the current module leader for the Human Resource Management programme at Cardiff Business School. Kate is a trustee of Cardiff Mind Limited.
