Event Information

The South West has firmly established itself as one of the UK’s leading hubs for technology and creative innovation, combining deep technical expertise with world-class creative talent. From software, AI, and digital platforms to film, animation, design, gaming, and immersive media, the region is known for turning ideas into high-growth ventures.

Known as "Silicon Gorge", Bristol and the wider West of England continue to attract ambitious founders, skilled talent, and significant investment across sectors including software, digital, media, design, gaming, and immersive tech.

Bristol is now the fourth-most popular UK city for tech recruitment, with high-growth companies accounting for 36% of the city’s business population. Strong networks such as SETsquared, TechSPARK, and Bristol Creative Industries connect founders, creatives, technologists, and investors across this thriving ecosystem. (Source: Beauhurst)

These insight meetings bring together ICAEW members (including finance professionals, CFOs, and financial controllers) who work with tech and creative start-ups across the South West. It provides a forum to explore the shared and sector-specific challenges these businesses face — from scaling digital products and creative IP to managing cash flow, fundraising, and building sustainable teams.

Join us to network with peers, share best practice, and gain practical insights to help tech- and creativity-driven start-ups thrive in this fast-moving and competitive landscape.

During the series, topics of discussion may include:

  • Growth and scale | Rapid growth in tech and creative markets brings pressure to adapt quickly, professionalise operations, and protect innovation.

  • Cash flow management | Revenue can be uneven across project-based, subscription, and platform models, making cash flow discipline essential.

  • Planning and forecasting | Robust forecasting is critical in sectors shaped by fast-changing technology, audience demand, and client pipelines.

  • Compliance requirements | Navigating evolving regulations, IP considerations, and sector-specific requirements remains a key challenge.

  • Fundraising and investor relations | Building credible narratives around technology, creative value, and IP is vital to secure funding and sustain growth.

  • Resource constraints | Founders often juggle creative, technical, and commercial roles, facing ongoing pressure on time, talent, and capital.
