Course overview

The board has overall responsibility and accountability for risk, supported by the executive and operational teams. Consequently, there is an expectation that accounting and finance personnel at all levels have the appropriate knowledge and capability to support, and in some cases, lead the process.

This course provides a good practical overview of what chartered accountants, both executive and indeed non-executive, need to know about risk management.

By using case studies and peer discussion, as well as expert teaching techniques, you will learn to identify and contextualise risks effectively, as well as manage and respond efficiently.

Learning outcomes:

  • How to add insight and build a more strategic approach to risk management.
  • Ability to review and positively challenge the current company process.
  • How to improve the approach to risk identification, measurement and enterprise–wide profiling.
  • A better understanding of assurance needs and mapping techniques.
  • Provide better risk leadership and act as the key sponsor of activity in this area.
  • Take a fresh view of the control environment and use of control assessment routines.
  • Focus on the decision-making process based on risk treatment (residual or net risk position).
  • Apply basic benchmarking of the approach used in the company to recognised standards.
  • Ensure that risk management is on a cycle of continuous improvement .

Who should attend
